Durgapur, 26 August 2026: As part of its ongoing advocacy efforts to strengthen hemophilia care, the Hemophilia Society – Durgapur Chapter (HSDC), along with persons with hemophilia and their family members, visited Bankura Medical College & Hospital on 19 August 2026 and Bishnupur Government Hospital on 25 August 2026.
At Bankura Medical College & Hospital, the delegation held a fruitful discussion with the Principal, Medical Superintendent-cum-Vice Principal (MSVP), Additional Medical Superintendent, doctors and nursing team regarding emergency management, treatment and comprehensive care for persons with hemophilia.
Prof.(Dr.) Arpan Goswami, MSVP, assured that henceforth hemophilia patients arriving with severe bleeding at the hospital would be admitted directly to the Medical Ward, thereby reducing repeated movement between the Emergency Department and the Medical Ward.
Their family members will complete the necessary formalities at the Emergency Department and obtain the prescription using the required medical documents. The prescription will then be submitted to the Medical Ward to facilitate prompt clotting factor replacement therapy, reducing delays and inconvenience for patients and their families, which can ultimately help prevent severe pain, long-term disability, and premature death resulting from untreated or delayed treatment of bleeding episodes.
At Bishnupur Government Hospital, discussions with the CMOH, Medical Superintendent and the team of doctors focused on ensuring 365×7 uninterrupted availability of anti-hemophilic clotting factors—the essential life-saving treatment for persons with hemophilia, addressing challenges in obtaining Handicap/Disability Certificates, and strengthening comprehensive hemophilia care and support.
Importantly, Dr. Subhankar Kayal, Medical Superintendent, announced that a specific date would be arranged exclusively for the evaluation of persons with hemophilia for Disability Certificates, which is expected to make the process easier and more accessible for eligible patients.
