Free Inhibitor Screening Test Camp and Physiotherapy Camp

Durgapur : Hemophilia Society Durgapur Chapter successfully organized a Free Inhibitor Screening Test Camp and Physiotherapy Camp for persons with hemophilia from different districts of West Bengal.
The programme was graced by Shri Lakhan Chandra Ghorui, Hon’ble MLA, Paschim Bardhaman, Dr. Prithvi Raj , HOD, Blood Bank of The Mission Hospital, and Shri Ashis Kumar, a trained and experienced physiotherapist from Lucknow.A total of 32 persons with hemophilia underwent free inhibitor screening tests and received physiotherapy consultations and check up during the camp.


Addressing the gathering, Dr. Prithvi Raj Bhowmik emphasized the importance of regular inhibitor screening. He advised that every person with hemophilia should undergo an inhibitor screening test at least twice a year, or as recommended by their treating physician. He explained that early detection of inhibitors enables doctors to modify treatment promptly, thereby preventing serious complications, reducing joint damage, and improving long-term health outcomes.
During the programme, Shri Lakhan Chandra Ghorui expressed that it was the first time in his life he had heard about hemophilia in such depth. He was deeply moved by the warm reception from the hemophilia community and by the heartfelt accounts shared by persons with hemophilia and their family members regarding their daily struggles, treatment challenges, and financial hardships.
The Hon’ble MLA assured the community of his wholehearted support. He requested Shri Ajoy Roy, Secretary of the Hemophilia Society – Durgapur Chapter, to submit a detailed memorandum outlining the issues, challenges, and requirements for ensuring proper treatment and care for persons with hemophilia. He informed the gathering that, after reviewing the memorandum, he would discuss the matter with the Hon’ble Health Minister of West Bengal and extend all possible support for improving hemophilia care in the state.
Shri Lakhan Chandra Ghorui also interacted personally with several mothers of children with hemophilia, listened to their concerns with empathy, and assured them that he would make every possible effort towards securing a better future for their children.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ajoy Roy, Secretary, Hemophilia Society – Durgapur Chapter, stated that inhibitor screening is one of the most important investigations for persons with hemophilia. He urged all patients to undergo inhibitor screening regularly, strictly following the advice of their treating physicians, as early detection and timely intervention can significantly improve treatment outcomes, prevent complications, and enhance quality of life.
Shri Ajoy Roy also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble MLA for his encouraging words, compassionate approach, and commitment to supporting the hemophilia community. He appreciated the MLA’s assurance of cooperation in strengthening access to quality healthcare and rehabilitation services for persons with hemophilia and their families across Paschim Bardhaman and the entire state of West Bengal.
The Hemophilia Society – Durgapur Chapter also conveyed its sincere thanks to all the doctors, physiotherapists, volunteers, supporters, and participants whose dedication and cooperation made the programme a grand success.
